MonaLisa Touch is a novel laser treatment to help with vaginal discomfort.
Vaginal symptoms such as dryness, burning sensations, painful intercourse and urinary symptoms such as increased urgency, frequency, pain, and recurrent UTIs can occur around menopause, after treatment for breast cancer and sometimes after child birth.
The main cause is condition called atrophic vaginitis. This is when the tissues become thin (atrophy) and inflamed (vaginitis) because of a lack of oestrogen.
More than half of women will experience vaginal atrophy (thinning and drying of the vaginal walls) at some point in their lives, and very often they think nothing can be done to help when vaginal moisturisers and lubricants fail to treat the symptoms.
We are delighted to offer the Mona Lisa Touch Laser Therapy at Sandbanks Clinic with Dr Alex Taylor.
MonaLisa Touch is used by gynaecologists to deliver laser energy to vaginal tissue which promotes the body’s natural healing response making this procedure completely natural. It is quick, non-surgical, hormone-free and helps you to get back to enjoying your intimate relationships.
How does it work?
It uses a CO2 laser that affects the vaginal lining. It causes inflammation and subsequently thickening and regeneration of the tissues.
Is it painful? How long is the recovery?
The treatment is painless and takes between 5-10 minutes. The recovery is immediate.
How often should I have the treatments?
Usually three treatments a year at 4-6 weekly intervals are recommended and then one maintenance treatment every year. But of corse everyone is different and our gynaecologist Dr Alex Taylor will asses each individual patients needs and tailor a treatment plan to suit.
What are the adverse effects?
Most women tolerate their treatments very well. However, some experience minor, temporary side effects such as mild vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, tenderness, itching, or burning.
Should I also see other healthcare professionals?
Yes! Any hormonal condition such as menopause, endometriosis or PMS can be affected by the things somebody eats or drinks. This is where nutritionists can be hugely beneficial. For conditions such as stress incontinence that involve the pelvic floor, women’s health physiotherapists can be a great additional choice of care.
